Empaths are emotional sponges who tend to be wide open, creative, intuitive, big-hearted, deep and have the ability to empathize and feel deeply. In my own recent discovery of being an extroverted empath (more people are typically introverted empaths), I have healed much of my past and addiction with food, people pleasing and taking on other’s emotions because of Dr. Orloff’s book and strategies. I’m honored to share these with you.
Here are some of Dr. Orloff’s success strategies for empaths:
  1. Watch your symptoms and notice when you feel sensory overload, which might mean sensitivity to light, overwhelm around people and feeling like you’re in a bubble. Go to a quiet and dark room, meditate and realign to calm yourself. This is great for anxiety as well.
  2. Jump into water – take a bath, a shower, get into the ocean or if none of those are possible options, throw water on your face, wash your hands or drink fresh water. Water is purifying and healing to empaths.
  3. Set limits – take a deep breath and set boundaries with others. No is a complete sentence. You can set boundaries with love and in a kind way.
  4. Put your hand over your heart and connect to your heart energy. You can find heart meditations on Dr. Orloff’s website, on Insight Timer (I have a few up there as do many teachers) or on Youtube. Focus on something beautiful and how much you love it, like the ocean, a waterfall or the beach. Empaths need the energy of love as it is most soothing.
The gifts of being an empath:
  • deep empathy
  • openness
  • open-hearted
  • goodness
  • wanting the best for all
  • a feeling of oneness
  • connection to the earth
  • creative
  • lovers
  • poets and artists
  • compassionate
  • highly intuitive
Self-care is the most important aspect to respecting yourself as an empath and sensitive person so you can thrive in the world. Check out Dr. Orloff’s newest book, Thriving as an Empath, for more practical strategies. Stay in touch about what is working, what you’re noticing and your awakening of being an empath.
